Biopsy under the control of CT 2021- Medical Sun

CT-assisted core biopsy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure for obtaining histological material using a special thin needle under the control of computed tomography .

The purpose of this procedure is to obtain samples of material from internal organs in case of suspicion of the presence of malignant neoplasms in order to clarify the diagnosis.

This procedure is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. If a malignant tumor is suspected, CT-assisted biopsy makes it possible to determine the cellular composition of the formation, and also makes it possible to carry out genetic tests to look for specific mutations in the material obtained. In many medical institutions, an aspiration (cytological) biopsy is performed, which does not make it possible to conduct immunohistochemical and genetic tests, which are necessary to determine the nature of the formation. At the European Medical Center, a trephine biopsy and a full set of diagnostic tests are performed - this allows the doctor to determine effective patient-oriented treatment tactics. In the presence of specific genetic mutations in the received material, targeted therapy is used,

Advantages of the procedure  - the main advantage of this procedure is its minimal invasiveness. To obtain a histological material, special preparation and anesthesia are not required - the whole procedure is performed under local anesthesia and in most cases does not cause much discomfort to the patient. Guidance under the control of computed tomography allows the doctor to determine the needle course as accurately as possible, which reduces the likelihood of complications. The average duration of the procedure is 30 minutes.

Preparation for the procedure  - no special preparation is required. When the patient is taking antiplatelet drugs, they must be canceled 1 week before the procedure. Biopsies in children are performed under sedation.

Procedure progress

Before the procedure, the patient undergoes a consultation with a specialist who reviews the previous CT results and determines the possibility and necessity of performing a biopsy.

The procedure begins with an overview computed tomogram to determine the exact location of the site from which it is necessary to obtain histological material. The doctor chooses the optimal trajectory of the needle and marks the injection site on the patient's skin. The patient is then given local anesthesia at the biopsy site to ensure that the procedure is painless. After anesthesia, the doctor inserts a biopsy needle and, under the guidance of computed tomography, accurately takes the material - the duration of obtaining the material itself takes several seconds.

Benefits of performing CT-assisted biopsy at European Medical Center

  • At EMC, this procedure is performed by Professor  Evgeny Isaakovich Libson  (Israel), who has many years of experience in the biopsies of various organs. Also, a CT-assisted biopsy is performed by a radiologist, a certified surgeon  Andrei Yuryevich Trebushenkov.
  • Efficiency. We perform trepanning core biopsy, which, unlike aspiration, allows us to obtain a sufficient amount of material and makes it possible to perform complete diagnostic tests - immunohistochemical and genetic analysis to search for specific mutations. This allows you to determine personal effective treatment tactics.
  • The procedure is safe. All biopsies are performed under strict instrumental control.
